ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP ELIGIBILITY
Active membership is open to members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Commissioned officers, beginning with the rank of Inspector, are not eligible as they fall within the present classification of “management”. There could be a further determination on this classification in future, as an act of self-governance by association members (through our constitution) or by the government as it excludes certain positions from the bargaining unit due to their confidential or managerial nature. An active member may continue as such until retirement from regular police duties or promotion to a commissioned rank within the classification of “management”. An active member who retires from regular police duties relinquishes the right to vote but retains their access to the association community.
HOW ACTIVE MEMBERS PARTICIPATE
Members have exclusive access to our association community, which includes direct contact with members in their region, member-to-member support, and a login to our intranet forum. Members stay informed about the on-going changes to labour relations within the force and help communicate this information to their coworkers. Members work with their regional MPPAC leadership in order to help distribute information, provide assistance to fellow members, and organize regional activities. Members can assume regional and even national leadership and organizational responsibilities. Following certification, and the end of our interim period, active members will vote to ratify our constitution and vote for regional and national representatives (note: active members may also stand for elected positions at this time).
